PGA Aroeira No.1 (Pines Classic Golf Course)
Aroeira Pines Classic Golf Course is referred to by golf specialists as one of the best courses in Europe, Aroeira I hosted the Portugal Open in 1996 and 1997, various Ladies Open and the Qualifying School of the Ladies European Tour.|Situated within a beautiful protected area just 25 km from the heart of Lisbon and 600 metres from a stretch of sandy beaches, Aroeira is the largest golf resort in the Greater Lisbon Area. Providing the perfect environment for the whole family to relax, the Aroeira Golf Resort is a fully enclosed 345 hectare property set within a mature pine forest.

We were curious about the works that had been done on the Aroeira I course. There is still some work to be done, also because of the storm which hit the region a month earlier resulting in several uprooted trees, but when all works are finished this will result in a well deserved upgrade of the course showing it's the full potential. Fairways were completely redone and in great shape. Greens had all the same speed and looked very good without any diseases. The tee-boxes could be better. Most noticeable was that all the large and small bushes had been removed between the trees making the course much more open and allowing a recovery shot from between the trees. Also a current number of bunkers have also been modified such as on hole 3 and hole 6 on the Aroeira I course where they merge into the pond. When all works are done and with proper daily maintenance, Aroeira I should be able to achieve a score of at least 8/10 and possibly higher. Looking forward to coming back in summer time!

This was another course recovering from the recent storms, but again was in remarkably good condition considering the damage inflicted on it. The benefits of the refurbishment works undertaken during the course closure last year are now apparent. The fairways are in excelled condition.

It is a nice course. Mostly straight holes with a lot of trees along both sides. Quality of the course is great. Friendely staff. Only downside is that the drivingrange is not near.

Course with a good layout in fair condition. Greens were true. Old clubhouse but nice set up and great staff. No driving range at this location as it is at the other Aroeira course (Challenge)

On the whole, a Very good course. There were some areas on the course that could be in better condition, especially the first few holes.

The course was in great condition for 13 holes. The last 5 holes were being worked on by green staff. They were heavily sanded and the machinery used left tyre tracks. What could have been a great left us disappointed.

The staff in the reception, bar and caddy master were very nice and helpful. Unfortunately the course was in terrible condition. Greens, fairways and tee boxes need a lot of work to bring them up to an acceptable standard. The design of the course is good as the course navigates through very large mature trees.

We enjoyed another round @ the Wentworth of Portugal like it is often called. Although the course is better maintained then Aroeira Challenge (Aroeira II), there is room for improvement to get a rate of 8+. It’s not possible to clean up the pineappels every week but there is also a lot of small lumber which can be removed. We got a very warm welcome by 2 young ladies and the staff at the bar were very friendly and helpfull. Until next time.
