Penha Longa Monastery Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, with Kyle Phillips, and opened in 1995, three years after its sister course, the Atlantic Championship. Set within the same Sintra hills estate near the ruins of the original 14th-century monastery, it plays to a par of 35 over nine holes.
Narrower fairways and faster greens than the Atlantic give it real character of its own, built deliberately as a quicker, gentler round rather than a scaled-down version of the championship course, typically finishing in under two hours. The 4th plays close to the old monastery ruins, the 5th and 8th bring lakes into play against the Sintra hills, and the round closes at the 9th with a view over the Penha Longa Palace.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant. It's the ideal second round for anyone staying at Penha Longa, or a satisfying option for late arrivals who still want golf before dinner. Book through Tee Times alongside the Atlantic Championship course for the full Penha Longa experience.
