Lisbon Sports Club is one of Portugal's oldest golf addresses, with golf added to the club's sporting activities in 1922. The course found its permanent home in the wooded Serra da Carregueira hills near Belas in 1964, a valley setting some twenty minutes from Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais alike.
Hawtree & Sons laid out a parkland course in the Scottish tradition, narrow and tree-lined, with a stream that shadows play across much of the round. The opening stretch sets the tone: woods to the left, water to the right, and bunkers on both sides of the 1st, followed immediately by a demanding par three before most golfers have found their rhythm. The layout stays rustic rather than manicured throughout, which is very much the point. The clubhouse, converted from the estate's original house, keeps its colonial-era character, and its terrace looks out over the 5th and 18th fairways.
Facilities include a driving range, a golf academy with a resident professional, and a clubhouse restaurant with its own on-site microbrewery, a rare find on a Portuguese golf course. Twenty minutes from Lisbon's airport, it suits a round either side of a flight as easily as a full day out. Book Lisbon Sports Club through Tee Times and add some proper old-club character to your Lisbon golf break. (...)
Belas Clube de Campo was laid out by American architect Rocky Roquemore in the Carregueira hills near Belas, opened in the late 1990s as the golf heart of a wider residential estate master-planned by Charles Franzman. Houses sit on the hilltops looking down over fairways that thread through the sheltered valleys below, around thirty minutes from Lisbon and a natural stop between the airport and Cascais.
Roquemore's touch shows clearest in the small, strategically placed bunkers guarding holes 2, 3 and 5. The par-five 2nd, known as 'Augusta' for its nod to the Masters' famous 13th, sets an early tone, while the 9th demands a precise tee shot past a ravine and lake to leave any real chance at the green. The two-tier green at the 11th punishes a careless approach, and the round closes at the 'Big Hole', a testing par four where a well-guarded lake often leaves a long second shot into the 18th.
Facilities run to a driving range, a golf academy with resident professionals, a locker room, and a clubhouse restaurant with terrace views over the course. Pair it with Lisbon Sports Club or Penha Longa Atlantic for a complete Lisbon golf break, or book it on its own through Tee Times for a genuine test in the Sintra hills. (...)
