Troia Golf Championship Course is a spectacular links, and one of the most fascinating golf challenges in Portugal. The magazine Golf World elected in 2003, as the 25th best European Golf Course. The usual approach to the golf course is straight over the Estuary of the Sado River - a pleasant short ferry ride from Setubal to the Peninsula of Troia, a region of great natural beauty near the Atlantic Ocean.|The greens are small with naturally shaped defensive bunkers and hummocks, while the fairways are narrow and hemmed in by sandy dunes and pine trees, providing a genuine test of skill for the lowers handicap golfers together with enjoyment for the more modest players.|The front nine has a run of beautiful sea holes. Troia Golf Championship Course offers you a comfortable and welcoming Clubhouse, constructed in a rustic style, with a set of first class facilities services: golf reception, pro-shop, bar, restaurant and a large balcony to the 18th Green and also a excellent Driving Range with two putting-greens and one chipping and bunker practice area.

Top layout and long from the back tee's. The natural landscape is impressive and the course quality high. Only downside was in February there wasnt much service available for food and drinks but a minor point.

Very nice golf course next to the ocean. Friendly staff.
However, it was a pity that I had to play when there was a tournament going on..

Nice welcome. Buggy is quiet expensive,
after 5 pm only small services in the club Restaurant, but the course was well prepared, has a good setup for all Kind of players and offers great views over the ocean

A great day out. We travelled by ferry from Setubal, which takes you across the very lovely Sado estuary. The clubhouse and practice facilities are of a very high standard; and the staff welcoming. The course is attractive and well maintained, with plenty of variety from hole to hole. It is ideal for golfers of all abilities. Very definitely a destination I would recommend.

Today the only issue was the greens that was not cleaned.

A very high class golf course. It is probably better suited to the games of low handicappers, but if you select appropriate tees it can be enjoyed by anyone. Large waste areas; extensive bunkering, and small, fast greens all make the course very challenging. In excellent condition at the time of our visit. The clubhouse is very comfortable, and the practice area has everything you need for to warm up for your round. Comined with a ferry trip across the Sado estuary this is a great day out. We will return.

"Holiday"-Course. Easy to Play, in fair condition, many bunkers and waste Areas.
Very narrow Course, greens and next tees next to each other.
When returning from game at 4:30pm, the kitchen was closed.
Thus, no rating of restaurant possible
Rating: not more than 5.

Fabulous course! Such a shame for them it is so quiet but that suited me just fine.. If it was a little cheaper it may attract more players.

Troia is a beautyful golfcourse. Very friendly staff and a unexpected golf expierience. Mostly flat but windy. Playing under palmtrees was very joyful and the greens were like deutsche Autobahn. Very fast. One thing i like to mention is the moscito Plaque. Bring some insect protection with you. There is none in the pro-shop.

Dommage ????

We very much enjoyed our golf today. It was a pleasure to play fairway woods off lovely grassy fairways. One does need to be accurate as there is so much sand around and not necessarily in the bunkers! A good test of golf. The staff were all delightful and so helpful - we give them five stars. The food and drink were much enjoyed, with a good choice from the menu, when we had a break after 9 holes, before continuing the back 9. Thank you Troia Golf for a lovely days golf.

We played Troia twice on our trip. We love this course but it stands up to its nickname 'Troia the destroyer'on a windy day. As always lovely helpful staff. We had a nice lunch sitting overlooking the first tee which was very tasty. We will be back

Excitement builds as you board the ferry to Troia, This was a great start to the three rounds, with a fabulous lunch on the terrace. Quite a tough track first time out, with large waste areas of sand, but very playable with some thought. The greens were dreadful, which was very disappointing. Long grass, slow, uneven and a two putt on every green was about as good as it got. I would hesitate to recommend this course without knowing when the greens are in prime condition. The views and many of the holes were wonderful, such a shame the edge was taken off by the green conditions.

Troia is for great players. This links it seems easy but is very taft. Sand on the side of the fairway give you the possibility of finding the ball, but is very delicate to come out.

The best course we played - a formidable challenge - you need to stay positive - open to the wind with fabulous views, small greens, plenty of sand - very quiet - millionaires golf!

It was good to return to Quinta do Peru. The course is still a challenge especially the second nine but I was disappointed by the scale of development which, for me detracted from the experience.

Chez Carlos Golf Society
2012-02-12
The Society travelled northwards on its annual trip away once again to the Costa Azul region of Lisbon. It was an early start after breakfast at Parkies Cafe for a mid-morning tee off at Troia. Currently ranked 32 in Continental Europe Troia holds the record that Sam Torrance was the only player to beat Par to win the Portuguese Open in 1983. Thomas Levet described it as ‘the toughest course in Europe’.
Architect Robert Trent Jones built a masterpiece set amidst sandy dunes and towering pine trees on a coastal peninsular with spectacular views of the mountain range across the ocean. Small greens heavily guarded by large bunkers demand aerial approach shots. The course was in fighting form with the greens set at ‘12’ on the stimpmeter. Anything on the wrong side could result in the ball sliding off into the fringe and beyond. It was a day not for the faint hearted!
Great course and well worth the effort getting there.
