Praia Del Rey Golf Course
Praia D'El Rey opened on the Silver Coast in June 1997, designed by American architect Cabell B. Robinson on a site he himself said gave him, ready-made, the landscape architects usually have to invent. An hour northwest of Lisbon, near the medieval walls of Óbidos, the course sits within a resort built around pine forest and open dune land running down to the Atlantic.
The front nine winds inland through the pines before the back nine turns hard for the coast. Holes 10 and 11 build the anticipation, the tough uphill 11th offering no bail-out either side of the green, before the course delivers its reward: four consecutive holes, 12 through 15, played out among the dunes with the Atlantic and the Berlengas Islands in view throughout. Golf World called it ''wild and wonderful'', and eighty-seven bunkers make sure the wildness is felt as much as seen. Guest feedback over the past two years is unusually consistent on one point: the greens and fairways are kept in excellent shape.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant. Pair it with neighbouring West Cliffs for one of the strongest two-course stops on Portugal's Silver Coast, and book both through Tee Times for the best combined rate.

I last played Praia D'el Rey almost 20yrs ago and had forgotten how good this course is. We teed off just before 1pm and being just a 2 ball in a buggy with nobody in front of us we sailed round the front 9 in 90 minutes. Unfortunately when we arrived at the 10th tee there were 4 groups waiting to start their rounds, the club had a members 'Friday Fun' competition planned and had blocked the 10th tee? until 3pm. It took us a further 2.5hrs to complete the back 9 following the mixed 4 ball groups which was disappointing, if I had known in advance that midway through our round we would encounter this I would have changed the tee time accordingly. The clubhouse terrace area is in need of refurbishment. Tee boxes should be better indicated, due to the size/shape of the tee blocks you do not know which tee you are on until stood upon it, often requiring a move back/forth if you are not a regular. Considering the traffic this course gets the greens were in great shape. We will return again for sure and will make enquiries next time regards expected pace of play to make the round more enjoyable.

Praia Del Ray comes out top as it is suits our level of golf. Although always busy it is In excellent condition with around half the holes having outstanding views of the ocean. Played here a few times now and can't wait to return again.

Course in excellent condition. Pro shop was expecting us on arrival and golf buggy was ready for us as hoped. Great practice area which we enjoyed using before we played. Great course.
