On the edge of the Óbidos Lagoon, Bom Sucesso is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Donald Steel, opened in 2008. Steel, a former president of the British Association of Golf Course Architects and a key figure behind changes to the Eden course at St Andrews, set out to reproduce the character of classic, traditional layouts here rather than chase novelty.
The course splits cleanly in two. The front nine plays across level ground, while the back nine climbs into genuinely uneven terrain, with the par-5 17th the standout hole: played from the highest point on the course, dropping downhill across dramatic ridges to a green with the lagoon as its backdrop. The par-5 2nd and the water-crossing par-4 18th add further teeth to a course that rewards patience and course management over raw length.
Conditioning here has been inconsistent in the past, particularly on fairways and tee boxes after heavy rain or dry summers, but recent play has shown real improvement, with the course maturing well. Set against Royal Óbidos and West Cliffs nearby, it's the better-value option of the three without giving up much on layout or views. If you want a genuine Donald Steel design and don't need the polish of a five-star price tag, book Bom Sucesso as part of your Óbidos golf trip.

Excellent layout, although a bit tired generally. Slightly wider fairways, nicely tree lined. Enjoyed our return here too and the green fees were quite a bit cheaper than nearby. We were off in front of a tournament and had the course to ourselves - always a pleasing experience. Second 9 a bit different and tougher than the front 9 with 2 very unusual holes to finish.

Course has matured over the years. Much more pleasing to the eyes than Royal Obidos. Will play again.

Course was in as good a condition as we have played it over the past few years, still, wet in areas but to be expected and buggies had to be kept to the cart paths. Downside was they stopped serving food in the clubhouse at 5 even though website said it was open until much later.

Well worth a visit if you are playing golf in the area. Reasonably undemanding outward 9 with some scenic holes. The inward half is a lot tighter and not easy, particularly in the wind. The last 2 holes are outstanding. If course conditions are soft from recent rain they require you to keep buggies on paths. All in all a very good experience and will return again in the future.

1st time playing here. Relatively easy course compared to 3 neighbouring but shot level par so obviously enjoyed. Practice facilities very good along with speed of play. Will be back…

The staff are very friendly but the course needs more maintenance, definitely gone downhill since last time I played. Course is challenging and some great views but the greens were not the best. I will play again and hopefully the greens will be in better condition. The views are stunning though !
